Where can gays and lesbians get domestic partnerships or civil unions in the United States?

Answer:

Civil Unions:

Civil unions are allowed in one state: New Jersey. Civil unions allow all of the state level benefits of marriage to gay couples.

Domestic Partnerships:

Some domestic partnership laws offer all the same state-wide rights as marriage. States with broad domestic partnership laws are: California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and District of Columbia.

Other states with domestic partnerships allow some, but not all of the benefits and responsibilities of marriage to same-sex couples. Those states are: Hawaii, Maryland, Colorado and Wisconsin.
