How did you come out to your parents?
I was 18 years old when I came out to my mom. It was face to face after we were having a fight about marijuana she found in my freezer lol, talk about a double whammy to my mom.
What did you say?
Well it wasn't planned or anything and my parents were staying at my place and just before they left my mom came and asked me about the weed. That had me and her all emotional and angry then I noticed a poster from the strippers had been taken down, I had forgotten to hide it myself. I asked about it and she said she didn't want my dad to think I was gay or something, I didn't say anything, she then said are you? I broke down crying and she just kind of sighed. She's very religious and told me she loves me just not that part of me and that it's a sin and all that mumbo jumbo but then she said that she loves me no matter what. I told her about my girlfriend and she tried to ignore that subject saying she couldn't handle it. I begged her not to tell my dad because he's homophobic and that will be another coming out story. We rarely talk about it, it's sort of don't ask don't tell and that's ok but I love my girlfriend and want her to meet my mom.
Advice
- Don't do it how I did, plan the talk out.
- It will get better.
- Be patient with them, it's hard to handle for some people.
